In related news, more information has surfaced regarding the debut live performance of QUEENSRYCHE vocalist Geoff Tate's solo project, which took place this past Friday, June 1st, at The Catwalk in Seattle. According to various eyewitnesses, the group's musical direction is positively more commercial than that of QUEENSRYCHE, with some of the material taking on a 'Top 40-ish' feel. However, similarities to Tate's main project appear to be quite strong as well, a fact that was emphasized by the presence of several QUEENSRYCHE cuts in the band's set list.

In the 'Summer Tour' special edition of Rolling Stone magazine, which just hit the stands, MARILYN MANSON addresses his reasons for wanting to play in Denver in the wake of the Columbine shootings and subsequent protests that have caused MANSON's participation at the Denver stop on the Ozzfest tour to be less than 100% certain. According to MANSON, 'I just want to play a show in Denver and put the past in the past. I'm trying to be very respectful to the people of that city because of what happened at Columbine. But I think the church's protest makes this into a media event, which is disrespectful.' MANSON is also quoted as saying that the set list for the band's appearance at the Ozzfest will consist of the group's 'most aggressive and violent' songs. 'The best we have to offer is the ass-kicking, no-holds barred MARILYN MANSON,' he said.

In other MANSON news, it has been officially reported via the Ozzfest street team, that, in hope of promoting GODHEAD's presence on the second stage of the festival (since GODHEAD is signed to MANSON's Posthuman record label),MARILYN MANSON will be making guest appearances during GODHEAD's performance of 'Break You Down'.

Finally, MARILYN MANSON is confirmed to headline this year's Rock am See Open Air Festival, which will take place on September 1st in Constance, in the south of Germany. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE are preparing to enter the studio in July to begin recording their new album, tentatively entitled Songs For The Deaf, with producer Eric Valentine (SNAKE RIVER CONSPIRACY, SMASH MOUTH). The album, which is scheduled for a late 2001 / early 2002 release through Interscope Records, will be the group's first with longtime band collaborator and former SCREMING TREES frontman Mark Lanegan in the role of the group's official vocalist. Several guest musicians are tentatively scheduled to appear on the album, including FOO FIGHTERS mainman Dave Grohl, who will reportedly play drums on an unspecified track.
Speaking of the FOO FIGHTERS, the band is still demoing new material for the group's fourth full-length album, which they hope to begin recording 'properly' in the near future. According to Grohl, there are 'not many sleepy ballads on this one,' and the frontman claims that they've never been as excited about an album as they are about this one. Grohl is also expected to begin mixing shortly the material for his much-anticipated PROBOT project, which will include appearances from a host of metal's most revered frontmen, including Max Cavalera (SOULFLY/ex-SEPULTURA),Lemmy (MOTORHEAD),TomAraya (SLAYER),Phil Anselmo (PANTERA),King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE),Wino (SPIRIT CARAVAN/ex-THE OBSESSED),Snake (ex-VOIVOD),Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL),Cronos (VENOM),Eric Wagner (TROUBLE),and Mike Dean (C.O.C.). In a recent interview with Kerrang! magazine, Dave discussed some of the individual tracks that will appear on the PROBOT CD and the meaning behind their lyrical content. Here are a few select quotes from that interview:
...
Track: 'Dictatorsaurus'
Guest vocalist: Snake (ex-VOIVOD)
Grohl says: 'It sounds like something off VOIVOD's Killing Technology. It was the first track that we got back, and it blew us away. The drummer from VOIVOD, Away, is going to do the artwork for the album.'
...
Track: as-yet-untitled
Guest vocalist: Cronos (VENOM)
Grohl says: 'He had three different ideas for the lyrics to the song, and we're not sure which one he's going to go with. One of them was about sex, the other was about Satan, and one was about war. I was like, 'Just mix them all together.'
...
Track: 'Access Babylon'
Guest vocalist: Mike Dean (C.O.C.)
Grohl says: 'I chose him because the music for this song was one of the fastest on the album. In 1985 and '86, C.O.C. were one of the best bands in the world. They were among the first to go from being a hardcore band to incorporating metal in their sound.'
...
Track: as-yet-untitled
Guest vocalist: Wino (SPIRIT CARAVAN/ex-THE OBSESSED)
Grohl says: 'Wino was the only singer that I got to watch record his track. He also put on some lead guitar for the track, which are insane. He's an amazing guitar player, and when he sings, he leans back and grabs his belt-buckle, and looks like such a bad-ass.'
...
Track: 'Sweet Dreams'
Guest vocalist: King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE/KING DIAMOND)
Grohl says: 'We knew right from the start that he was going to fill the track with whispering and screams and laughter, and would make it as grotesque as possible. And he did! He told me he's singing about creeping into your dreams at night to steal your soul, so that he can pay his way out of hell. It's f.ckin' awesome! We might have Kim Thayil from SOUNDGARDEN do some leads on it too.'
...
Track: 'Ice Cold Man'
Guest vocalist: Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL/ex-NAPALM DEATH)
Grohl says: 'I think Lee told me that he was singing about prehistoric man watching the world die. Cool.'
